What is Bencharong?
Bencharong is Thai Royal style ceramic ware. It means “Five-Colored” in used. Five color that popular are red , yellow, black, white and green.There is hypothesis that Thailand may have begun to order various type of painted Chinese ceramic wares from China during the year 1656-1732. Later on Bencharong production begun during the late Ayutthaya period and continued until the Bangkok reign of King Rama V. At first reserved for use in the royal palace, bencharong later became popular in wealth households using in the rare, traditional patterns and forms.
How we make it ?
Bencharongs are produced after the white earthen wares are finished from second firing in the oven. The skilled craftsman free-draws on their surface with unique design in Thai traditional style. Then painted five colors with elaborate motifs by hand. When the colors dry , put them in special bottle or beehive kiln with 600-850 degree C for 8 hours and lets them dry by natural air. Although there are numerous processes in producing them, Bencharong are qualified as superb Thai ancient earthenwares from the past history with unique for their multi colors for many kinds of pottery.
The design motifs, along with many of the shapes, were distinctively Thai and included such mythological figures as Thepanomes ,celestial beings(our product code b-01). Lai Nam Thong, ceramic ware decorated with gold background, and etc.
What is RAMAKIAN?
Ramakian is the Thai version of the india epic Ramayana, which have created the Khon Mask performing dance.
What about the mask ?
The ornate papier mache masks, decorated with gold, lacquer, and paste jewels, are works of art and perfectly portray the protagonists’ personalities. Costumes are made of rich brocades adorned with sparkling costume jewelry and closely resemble the apparel of royalty and celestial beings in classical Thai mural paintings. Major characters are readily identifiable by the predominant colors of their costumes.
